Re: Transcoding speed

How long is a piece of string?
It depends on how fast your processor is, how much RAM you have, HDD speed, what formats you are transcoding from and to, etc, etc. The easiest thing to do is to test it yourself:

  • Turn on detailed logging in Serviio (click link to find out how) and restart Serviio;
  • Play a file that needs to be transcoded.
  • Search the log file for the ffmpeg command that is invoked.
  • Copy this command and run it from your command line. This will show a command window of ffmpeg transcoding the file allowing you to see what is happening.
  • Note the frame rate that the file is being transcoded at - this should ideally be 2x to 3x the frame rate of the video file.
  • Turn off detailed logging in Serviio (click link to find out how) and restart Serviio
When you are doing this note the CPU usage on your PC.

so can seviio trancode 10mbps or 50 or even 100mbps?
Why??
