Play an entire folder (a "poor man's playlist")

I'd like the ability to play in succession all the video/audio files in a single folder... something like a quick-and-easy playlist. This could also act as a pseudo-chapter list, since some players (like mine) have forward and backward buttons that skip to the previous/next file. You could then navigate back and forth through them. This already works fine in Serviio, the only piece lacking is the ability to play them all successively from start to finish.

I suppose you'd need some way to tell Serviio that a given folder is actually a "playlist"... maybe through a naming convention, such as "Movie.pl" or something.

That is already possible with serviio 0.4 if you play any video or audio file with out selecting that 1 file serviio will keep playing all teh file in succession.

Re: Play an entire folder (a "poor man's playlist")

Thanks! It's good to know it can be done, but I don't get what you mean by "with out selecting that 1 file"... ? On the player (TV), I have to select a file name... Or do I? So far I've only tested using the "Folders" entry that shows up and selecting actual file names. (I like keeping things simple). Are you saying that if I select a movie title (under "Movies", then Serviio will play all the pieces (files) of that movie? Would the actual files in the folder be something like follows?

Movie01.ts
Movie02.ts
Movie03.ts
etc.

Another thing I was thinking of experimenting with is to exploit ffmpeg's ability to handled numbered file, as in "ffmpeg -i Movie%d.ts". This would have to go through transcoding, of course. Also, you'd have to create a dummy "Movie%d.ts" file, which I don't think Serviio would add to its database unless it were actually a valid video file... maybe a couple of seconds of blank video, for example.

Re: Play an entire folder (a "poor man's playlist")

I've tried a few ways to get all movies in a folder to play on my Sony TV and it won't work for me. All audio files in a folder will play so this works well for albums but it would be great if it worked for movies to. The one thing about audio files though is that you get a short break inserted between tracks which is annoying on albums where tracks should run together. Can that be fixed or is that a function of the TV? Sorry, deviated a bit from the original thread.

They would both be functions of the TV rather than serviio. serviio just provides the file the TV decides what you can do with them/how they are displayed.
