Folder Presentation

It would be nice if in the Presentation section of folder view if when you add your folders that you can have the option to step into your folder and then have it display the movie files. Or have the ability to have your Library folder as a presentation category.

Movies
|
- Kid Movie Folder
| Display Movies under this folder.
- Movies Folder
| Display Movies Under this folder.
- Series Folder
Display Movies under this folder.

Folder Presentation

I'm not really sure if it's the same, but I have 3 different directories added to Serviio as video sources: one with movies for the kids, one with movies for me, and one with series.
When I navigate to the "Folders" thingy, it will show these three folders, with the content underneat. I don't have my movies in additional subfolders, except for the series, but this gives me what you want, I think.

MasterFrost - Not sure what you mean ?

If you dont want the Parent folder to show up -then select "Display Content Only" for the Folder Category and deselect "Include parents title for items in 'Display content only' categories"

This will ensure your sub folders (Kids / Movies / Series) show up in th 1st level "Video" Menu. If you turn off all the others, these would appear on the TV etc as the only 3 options under "video"

(Its actually this feature to reduce the folder structure to the absolute minimum why I started out with Serviio....then discovered how good it was with transcoding etc)

Re: Folder Presentation

I need to clarify, it does work as long as under the base folder that you add all of your movie files, but if you want to group your files in another folder level for managment it will not.

Example:

Root Display
|
|---Kid Movies (Folder)
| |---Scooby Doo (Folder)
| | |---Scooby Doo.mp4
| | |---Scooby Doo2.mp4
| | |---Scooby Doo Lake Monseter.mp4
| | |---...
| |
| |---Dora The Explorer (Folder)
| | |---Dora the Explorer1.mp4
| | |---Dora the Explorer2.mp4
| | |---Dora the Explorer3.mp4
| | |---...
| |
| Display all movies in Kids Movies (Folder) and child folders only under
| Kids Movies (Folder) level.
|
|---Movies (Folder)
| |---Back to the Future (Folder)
| | |---Back to the Future I.mp4
| | |---Back to the Future II.mp4
| | |---Back to the Future III.mp4
| |
| |---Bourne Trio (Folder)
| | |---Bourne Idenity.mp4
| | |---Bourne Ultumatum.mp4
| | |---Bourne Supremecy.mp4
| |
| Display all movies under the movies (Folder)and child folders only under
| Movies (Folder) level.
|
|---Series (Folder)
| |---NCIS (Folder)
| | |---Season 1 (Folder)
| | | |---NCIS_S01_E01.mp4
| | | |---NCIS_S01_E02.mp4
| | | |---NCIS_S01_E03.mp4
| | | |---...
| | | Display all movies under the Season 1 (Folder) and in child folders
| | | only under this folder.
| | |
| | |---Season 2 (Folder)
| | | |---NCIS_S02_E01.mp4
| | | |---NCIS_S02_E02.mp4
| | | |---NCIS_S02_E03.mp4
| | | |---...
| | | Display all movies under the Season 2 (Folder) and in child folders
| | | only under this folder.
| | |
| | Do not display movies at the NCIS (Folder) level.
| |
| |---House (Folder)
| | |---Season 1 (Folder)
| | | |---House_S01_E01.mp4
| | | |---House_S01_E02.mp4
| | | |---House_S01_E03.mp4
| | | |---...
| | | Display all movies under the Season 1 (Folder) and in child folders

Re: Folder Presentation

I beleve the best solution is to have each of your Library folder as a presentation category that way you can choose how you want the folder to display or if you want to use some of the pre defined category displays.

Re: Folder Presentation

So basically you want variable "depth" in the folder view for moviex vs TV Series etc. What you need is the (Even) more flexible presentation options I outlined here for full customisation ;-)

However, I have (sort of) acheived the same by using a combination of playlists and the built in "Series" view.

All my films are in 3 folders (Kids, Normal, High Def) and a 4th folder for TV Series with the normal "Programme/season/episode.avi" folder hierarchy underneath.

I used to use just the "Folder" view for both- but that shows filenames and not titles so not perfect.

I now have a batch file that creates a playlist for each of the Film folders (and that batch file could go down several folder levels I guess). I then use the "Playlist" presentation to effectivley give me the single view of each film folder but with Titles. And then use the "Series" presentation just for the TV Series to give the "TV program/Season/Episode" hierarchy (which does rely on having sorted out all the Metadata up front). I just run the batch file after I add a film, aswell as update the playlists, it also creates a thumbnail if it doesn't exist and forces a Serviio Library refresh.

I was thinking something along the same lines.
With having several hard drives and having content scattered across those drives, it is hard to organize the way it is displayed in the current mediabrowser template.

On one hand, i find it hard to use "Video" category as sometimes, series are added here as well, but on the other hand, i find using "Folders" even harder as i have to browse through several folders/folder paths to access similar content.

One way of tackling this, would be to implement a feature similar to Windows 7 Library. It lets you create any type of library (i.e. movies, kids movies, adult movies, funny movies) and designate which folders should be included in the library. I think having libraries (which are basicly glorified virtual folders) would be more beneficial to simply having folders option.
