Samsung C/D/E television, are my movies being retranscoded?

Hi,

I have a Samsung television and a few movies in a few different formats, from 480p to 1080p. Then I saw this line:
  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" maxVBitrate="20000">

Now, I'm no big expert in all this, but does this mean my 1080p mkv movies are being retranscoded to something lighter, like 720p or 1080i? Because if they are, I will stop getting my files in 1080p and target a lighter format, and save bandwidth at the same time.

Thanks!

they are not, unless it's an unsuported format. MKVs pay natively unless the H264 profile/level is greater that 4.1, or use header compression.

Check this threaD:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7547

with the new servio the porofile is not good for the samsung tv and some mkv get transcoded needlessly.
Sorted on page 3 of that thread

That is incorrect. The profile conforms to the Samsung specs for their TV's, and just because this user believes he has 2 files that will play natively, is not a reason to alter it,

Depends on how Samsung work out the level - either header based (looks like not in this case) or ref frame based. Might have to add some switch for this in the future if we can build a reasonable set of files that will prove this.
