Integrate Metadata into Online Sources Search

Hi Guys,

I have no idea if this is being looked at or addressed yet. But i've been using Serviio for a little while now and I love it. But the movies often show cover art of the wrong movie due to multiple movies with the same title e.g. Conan the Barbarian 1982/2011.

I would like to request that Serviio reads the year metadata tag from the file, and incorporates it into the online source search with the title in order to find the cover for the correct release. This would allow Serviio to find the correct cover art without the need to add the year in brackets to the file name e.g. Conan the Barbarian (1989).

Would this be an easy addition?

Re: Integrate Metadata into Online Sources Search

I believe it's easier to use the year in the file name. I've only had issues with a very few titles this way.

Also, many files won't have that sort of data embedded in the file, or it may be inaccurate. I've had that a couple of times where the year was wrong (off by a year).

For the real problem files Serviio now recognizes the IMDB identification number, so that resolves any stragglers.

Using a program like Filebot (http://www.filebot.net/) makes file naming easy and consistent. It's available for almost any OS.

Re: Integrate Metadata into Online Sources Search

I already acknowledge that the issue can be solved by placing the release year in () in the file name. But that is a naming convention that I do not use and have no intention of using.

You are correct that files will not have the correct meta tag, but whether the information is added to the file name or meta tag it is exactly the same effort in order to place the correct release year into either the title or uear meta tag. Either way this must be done in order to solve the issue.

Filebot is useful for those who wish to use it's naming structure. But I do not, my own is consitent and accurate, it is Serviio that currently ignores the meta tags that are correct in the files that I use. I have posted here as this is a feature that would be useful to me, but if it will not be to the majority of users or if nobody would like to add the feature then I have no issue with that. I will just ignore the incorrect cover art or seek alternate software solutions.

Re: Integrate Metadata into Online Sources Search

This issue occurs with the audio-files as well..... I have 3 albums with the artist names, but different years of release (all mentioned in the folder and the tags), but Serviio, just put them all together and I have an album of 36 songs......

Dart: I'm not implying your suggestion wasn't worthwhile. My thoughts are the file naming convention is something that is doable immediately. If you prefer your naming convention, that's great. I completely understand the desire for accurate cover art. That is one of the few things I prefer with Plex, the ability to modify cover art and correct file identification errors.

Zip would have to weigh in on the feasibility of adding such a feature. Might be something simple, or could be extremely complex. I have no idea.
