Serviio is an amazing product and I thank you for making it available to the general public and I cannot wait to see what features the next version will bring, I currently have it installed on a HP Lx-195 Windows Home Server v1 device and about two weeks ago I got the Sprint's version of the Samsung Galaxy S2. It comes with Samsung's AllShare client which allows it to be a UPNP/DLNA Client. It shows up in Serviio 5.2 as unknown. I downloaded the UPNP tools and here is the XML File:

Do I also need to provide a detailed log in order for someone to help me build a profile that will properly transcode mkv and other unsupported video files to the proper format? Currently it connects to the server and will stream AVI files but MKV files result in an unsupported format error, even though the built in media player will play them if they are stored locally on the device. I have tried just changing the profile in the serviio console but that really does not seem to make any difference that I can see.

I should have mentioned that, it is running Android 2.2.3. This phone is truly amazing with a huge 4.5 Super Amoled + screen!

download skifta to the phone and rockplayer lite both availible from market place and then use that to stream to it will work right out of teh box on ALL formats

based on that description it looks like the software is actually a MediaServer (like Serviio) and not client. Maybe it's both but it announces itself like a server. Is there nothing else in the DeviceSpy tool?

Thank you for your response and while this solution would work it is not the correct solution I am working for. Samsung provides a Windows based DLNA/UPNP server package for use in streaming software to their devices and I could use that out of the box with minimal configuration. I chose to use Serviio instead of Twonky or the Samsung product because of the features in Serviio. For the same reason I am trying to get the Samsung All Share software to work correctly with the Serviio server software. Ultimately this particular project is a learning experience for me in preparation for using this in an corporate environment.

you WONT get it to work, it useless that why so many people are using serviio and not the standard samsung all share software. I have given you a solution that works.

Now i can go into many reason why you will fail to get it to work on ANY media server and that the amout of files types you can use with it will be so limited you have to encoded every video file in such a way that teh software lieks to get it to work, or you can follow my advise and get it working in seconds on any7 file type you can throw at it.

I will export the two settings in the device / spytool and see what I can come up with for you.

Amazingly enough it seems to work fine with everything except MKV. And other threads in these very forums suggest that there is something in the way Serviio tells the AllShare client what type of video it is. I will try the options you mentioned above and see how well it works as the combination of UPNPlay and any player resulted in choppy video on the end device.

There was part of me that was hoping this would work better then UPNPlay and Vplayer which was very choppy, and unfortunately it was still choppy. The main reason I was hoping to get the allshare working was in the hopes it would somehow transcode the video and potentially reduce the bitrate or just make it less choppy through transcoding. Serviio does an amazing job sending to the PS3, although it seems to take forever for new files to be seen by the PS3 and thus playable but that is another issue.

choppyness is more likely to be your network than the apps on your phone, as i have personaly tested them with serviio 0.6 and they run perfectly fine.

I could believe that if it were any other network besides my own. I am running a gigabit backbone with business class rated switches and at the time of purchase the best rated Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Router from Linksys. I get good signal on the device itself and have no problem streaming to a Notebook using DLNA/UPNP when connected wired or wireless from the same server. Having searched and read the forums here as well as some Android forums I am beginning to think it is the device or the players themselves as I am not the only one to seemingly have this issue. The one change I do plan to make in the very near future is to add another Wireless Router to the mix configured as a Wireless Access Point to enhance the signal I get in the most distant areas of my house.

You are correct, it acts as both allowing me to share media on the device as well as stream media from other compliant devices.

This is what is listed when I highlight the link in the DeviceSpy. There are two sub-entries containing schemas. If you like I can copy and past those as well. Another thread you linked to or was linked to in the one you linked to said that the Samsung client expected a particular response for mkv containers in order for it to work.

I added this text to the profile.xml file just above the line that says Do Not Edit and then saved it and restarted the server via the Start Menu entries and the console and do not see a new profile. Granted this may be User Error on my end.

Are you using the Samsung profile? It might work, at least is behaves the same way as the server from Samsung.

as alot of user wont understand what service means, i quite often tell then to " resart the serviio server completely " or if they really struggle " restart the pc running serviio " english is a great language so many words basicly meaning the same thing

Aaah thank you. I restarted the sever and saw nothing. I then restarted the computer because restarting the service failed and I could not get the server to start. So I undid the changes I made (I renamed the xml file before saving the changes so all I had to do was delete the modified one and rename the original.) and everything went back to the way it was.

I then tried copying a mkv file directly to my HTC View 4g tablet and playing it with every player on the market that said it could play MKV. Keep in mind the file plays fine off the sd card on my Notebook, but was very choppy on my tablet. None of the players claiming to support hardware decoding could use hardware decoding to decode it. So then in a fit of frustration, I randomly selected another MKV file via Serviio and started streaming it and it streamed fine. Switched back to one of the previous ones that seemed to be choppy and it was still choppy. I am now in the process of using the guide in zip's signature to identify the video's makeup to see if I can then either avoid videos encoded in this method or create a profile for my HTC View that will transcode MKV files encoded in this format, if that is possible.

Cerberus: I downloaded and started using Skifia and it appears to be a much better DLNA Transport (is that the right term?) then UPNPlay. Thanks for the recommendation. Is your name from the Aardvark?

Plays choppy via Serviio or even if I copy it locally. I am not sure why it does this and there also may be a problem using Serviio to play it back on my PS3, but I haven't verified that yet. Meanwhile this video:

appears to play fine. My knowledge and understanding of video is only very basic to intermediate and by looking at the output, I am unsure what is different between the two videos and why one plays so much nicer then the others. Any ideas?

I knew of the greek dog but not it's name. There is a comic book from the 80's called Cerberus The Aardvaark.

Muxing mode : Header stripping <--- there your problem with that file as this is not supported and will cause issues so file will have to be remuxed without header stripping.
