Transcoding for sony smp-n100

I have a question that I have not been able to find an answer for. I have a sony smp-n100 media player that I am using serviio on to watch my movies. I have it hooked up to my computer over a wired network. My problem is that when I am trying to watch HD movies sometime the video lags and i'm assuming its due to the trans coding. My computer has an amd phenom II x6 2.8GHZ and is transcoding to a hard drive with plenty of space and is a 7200 rmp hard drive. I'm not sure if the hard drive is too slow or is my processor not fast enough for high action scenes. Does Serviio require a high speed internet because I though as long as its connected with a home network and not over wi-fi that would not matter.

Re: Transcoding for sony smp-n100

100Mbps network connection is enough for HD streaming (<30Mbps).

But if your source file is on remote location, you have both read and stream data through the network. So in this case the bottleneck could be the network.

That could also due to player (decoder) maximum videorate reached, for example Sony Bravia does not support >20Mbps videorate.

You can enable detailed logging file and check the ffmpeg command line used during transcoding. Then retry the same command line in a local Windows terminal and check the transcoding procidess rate.
