Music Videos

i've got a rather large collection of live concerts, concert songs, music videos etc. Beatles, Stones, ... ... and now even mz gaga and madonna.

I think I have figured out that for incorporating video metadata then for all of video files one method of retrieving descriptive metadata generation can be used? That is to use the online database or Swisscenter, ... you get some very useful movie annotations but these don't work well for music videos and live performances. Ummmm, MAYBE, XBMC .nfo files might help for Music Videos but by restriction inherent in the shared folders dialog only one method is available for video meta data extraction and that is the one chosen chosen in the metadata/video tab, and one could not use different methods by folder.

I don't know. If I used XBMC .nfo files could what is presented under videos when browsing the database (Movies, title, actors, ...) be any different?

I see I can store tag information in MP4 files but Servioo does not use these. Is that correct? Of course this could not apply to other video formats, so it would be insufficient means.

MUSIC VIDEO "TAGS"
Producers, Directors, Actors, just don't cut it for music videos.
For music videos and live performances let's start with the music-like: artist, song, genre, and more music-video specific: type (music video, live professional recording, live cam recording, live TV song, live TV entire show, concert song, entire concert, one slide (picture) w/ music, or slides), frame height, video codec, venue, date, ...

What I've done for now is separate the movies from the videos in folders, not included the videos in the metadata extraction. I can get all the music videos under 'Titles' by artist (because all my Music videos named first with the artist i.e. "name - songname (more specific info).XYZ" ... . But, in the end, I have only gone as far as viewing under 'Folders' anyway! NO improvement. I'd like to browse Lady Gaga videos by TV show, song name, ... . Find the Beatles "Revolution" by which TV show, etc.

And as I have done the important information that I would want for any video is on the right side of the name and often need to 'touch' and scroll to see. How FrUstRaTiNG!

So I suppose a feature to apply different methods to retrieve descriptive metadata on a per folder basis would be useful. But then would we see different sorts when browsing the library? Or you could break "Video" into three: "Movies", "Music Videos and Live Performances", "TV Shows".

I am sure a lot of people have dealt with this issue of Music Videos and concerts. Some experience expressed by Serviio users would really help me get on with enjoying more a couple decades of work on my music video library ...

Re: Music Videos

I agree, Paul.

My solution for now is that I use some kind of application which will create XBMC nfo files for all movie files I have. That way, I have full control on how things are sorted in Serviio.

Not a solution, but maybe a workaround for the time being.

Re: Music Videos

Not much here :-(

But after more consideration and more feedback received elsewhere r-win's' post pretty much sums it up. It's all .nfo files or nothing.

I later found out that mediafiles that I did not think contained metadata, like AVI's, do, in fact. However a few metadata editing attempts I made led to some pretty buggy software and where they worked the program was pretty much "Movie-DB" oriented, not applicable to Music and Live Perforance videos.

I could easily script my music video file names to .nfo files, but if I have to choose either NFO or MoviDB extraction for the entire project, I'm stuck there.

There is no music video universe database i know of. It should had to have been started long ago. and at least MP4 tags maintained.
