serviio installed on router

not just now but maybe soon wood it be possible if serviio, be a third party downloaded on to routers and run central at the router.plus add ftp server for add web access to serviio

Unless the router runs on Linux and allows installion of 3rd party programs, it would be possible. Would need a fast processor to transcode video though.

The other way you can - buy/build a NAS(Network Attached Storage), these are capable to run 24/7. My NAS server sit side to side with my router.

Popular NAS companies are QNAP, Synology, Thecus, ReadyNAS - these NAS's has ready made packages/modules to install Serviio very easily without you trying to compile it yourself, just like the Windows/Mac installers.
Advantage having a NAS, it can hold alot of storage depending on what NAS you buy.

The cheapest option is running Serviio on Raspberry Pi (costs £25/$25) that can be connected to your router.

Serviio on raspberry pi, you need to get the version of raspbian that supports java that Serviio requires. I can't remember of the top of my head but standard raspbian won't run jre. Google it, hard v soft floating point raspbian for pi.
