External Scripts for Transcoding

Hi, I just discovered Serviio and its great, really easy to use and the transcoding works like a charm. I been using it for my PS3 and XBOX 360, the only problem is that am unable to watch movies with external subtitles and to use mkv subtitles and extra languages.
So I was thinking what if Serviio allow the user to create his own transcode scripts just like in MediaTomb, that way I could tell Servio to also use Mencoder and support srt and mkv additional languages.
I currently have a Linux box with mediaTomb and I can watch avi's with external subtitles in the PS3 using mencoder, I love the idea to have only one DLNA server since Serviio is so easy to use.
Let me know what you think.

Did you look at the subtitle information on the web page"
http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33

Also do a search on the forums there are various threads talking about using external subtitles.

Re: External Scripts for Transcoding

this won't happen, at least any time soon. It's involve quite a lot of effort as at the moment Serviio is quite tightly coupled to FFmpeg and how it works.

Re: External Scripts for Transcoding

Yes moltra thanks I checked the threads but no luck so far, I know Serviio works good with ffmpeg, I think mencoder can give a little bit more functionality so I been thinking I beleive I could make something for this idea to work, am doing some research and I would post my results in this subject.
Anyway I change some parameters in the PS3 profile, Serviio founds the srt but they dont appear when Im looking the movie so I dont understand, is this because ffmpeg is limited in their subtitles support?
Actually I was wondering the subtitles part only works when Im transcoding right? , I mean when its a native format serviio doesnt do anything special about the video?

Re: External Scripts for Transcoding

Did you read the last sentence in the linked page?

Serviio does not support subtitles embedded in containers (e.g. MKV), not "burning" the text into the video stream.

Re: External Scripts for Transcoding

Yes I read it thanks!, I m actually talking about external subtitles (srt files) and for the record I know the page saids that this feature its only supported by some TV's. I was only checking if this could actually work in the PS3, now the srt in a matter of speaking can work when im transcoding I mean can I modify the ffmepg invocation and tell it to include the external subtitle file?
Is this available?

Re: External Scripts for Transcoding

No, as the sentence says. PS3 doesn't support external srt by itself and FFmpeg cannot burn the srt file into the stream (via transcoding) either.
