Start console without server running?

Hi. Would it be possible to start the console without previously starting the server? There are times when I want to change something in the console (categories, setup rendering profiles, setup directories, and so on) and I don't need the server running, but I still have to start it, as without it (version 0.52) the console moans there is no server. Would it be possible to change the bahaviour a little bit?

No, not possible. You need the server to watch a mov ie so why would you want to change a category without the server running?

I would just like to perform some configuration and not have to start the server. Or just update the library.
Agreed, this might not happen very often, most often I start the server without the console, but if I want to start the console without the server being started, I can't.

Configuration and library is done on the server, so it has to run to be able to perform those tasks.

Ok, but still, if I want to do the config, I have to start the server, then the console. If I could start the console first, then I just click a single button in it and start the server. I think it is simpler.
But, I don'w want to be a nuisance, if it's a no go, then it is a no go.
Thanks.

its a NO go as the important program is the server as this will work without the console running and is the part the does everything, the Console is just a GUI ( general user interface) for the server nothing more. :)

Well, i'm maybe wrong, but apparentely i use to force library updates (new files & folders) while the server is stopped.

I understand as i have the same problem, therefore i made a little proggy which starts the server, then the console and/or stops the server to leave alone the console.
If you're interested, just let me know.

The console is useless without server running.

____ UPDATE ____

This feature will NOT be implemented as without the server application running the console will not function so is rendered useless.

Serviio is recognized by my Panasonic Viera (i have 3 of them) only when i restart the server, this happens only when the connection is made wirelessly.
Therefore, i decided not to start Serviio with Windows.
While the server is stopped and the console is started, i can update my library and i have to say that the update for deleted items/new items in the library is made pretty quickly, then i have just to start the server when i want to use serviio and usually i close the console as i need it only once a day to update the library.

the library update wont actualy take place till server is running and if you mean STOPPING the server from inside the console, that doesnt actualy stop the server from running so this could be how you think your doing changes without server running.

but this is a mute point as this will not be implemented in any version of serviio.

I mean stopping the server not from inside the console but from Windows itself.
With regards to the last remark, it is implemented in my Serviio, i never asked for an implementation in a future release ;)

Wow, this turned to be out a semi-heated conversation.
I can certainly live with the fact that it will never be implemented, it was just a proposal. I am perfectly capable of doing it myself, but I always prefer to ask for a feature to be integrated in the tool so that there is a standard way.

Just a quicky - if the Stop server button in the console doesn't actually stop the server, what does it do? Seems to be the kind of thinking as Microsoft guys had, that to exit / stop the OS you had to click the Start button?

it stops the process rather than the actual service itself, something to do with the way windows services work from what i understand from ZIP.

I don't know about windows services (and neither do I personally care ;d), but I just tested this under Linux. After clicking 'Stop server' my computer is no longer available on the TV as DLNA server. But, 'ps aux | grep java' still shows the process. So, it kind of stops the server, and at the same time, it doesn't. That's confusing.

exactly it stops communication from the server rather than stopping the service itself.

In that case the 'Stop server' button is rather inadequately named, IMHO. 'Stop streaming' or whatever would be more appropriate.
But it might be just me. After all, anybody who does't like it can just edit the resource bundles in servio-client.jar and repackage the jar to change the texts.

I would like to note that it might look as though I am complaining, but I am not - I love serviio.
