Delete watched video Files

Let me just first say that I LOVE serviio. Its not even up to version 1.0 yet and its already the best DLNA server out there. I'm really hoping that you try to make this feature happen because I think it will improve Serviio more than a lot of these other little things that other folks seem to ask for.

**** I've seen in other DLNA servers a feature that lets you DELETE video files. I want to suggest for serviio to go a little further and to have 1 button (on tv) to delete all the videos that have already been viewed. ****

I know you have 350 requests for new features, but I really hope you take this more seriously since its something that would benefit more people than something like a facebook plugin.

Re: Delete watched video Files

One way that Serviio might handle this is to not display any file that starts with a dollar sign but I don't know if there is any way with DLNA to be able to ask from the device to rename the file with a $ after you watch it.

Re: Delete watched video Files

The biggest thing I see with this is that the various DLNA renderers do things different way. Some could probably do this and some might not be able to do this.

Plus I am not sure that I would want an unknown system (renderer) deleting things on my computer system.

One way to do this safely would be for an option to be added to serviio, to either delete or remove from the serviio database any files that have been viewed on a daily or weekly basis. An serviio would do this on a certain day at a certain time.

This would make it alot safer to delete watched files, than letting a renderer that could have it's firmware changed at any time and it would be unknown how that firmware change would affect files being deleted.

Yes, you can remove the listing of the movie from serviio. And then delete the actual file a week or a day later.

You can add additional safety by setting the default of that option to off. And having the user manually turn it on if they want to use that feature. (Maybe if you're really paranoid, you can put a disclaimer in there)

Re: Delete watched video Files

bump

I would love a way to delete videos using the media browser (and serviigo).
Or mark them watched and then have a way to find the watched files and delete them from a cronjob or something like that.

This is a very old topic. Was this considered or was something else implemented that I'm not finding?

Thanks

Re: Delete watched video Files

I am failing to see the draw in this ability. For me, the advantage of a DLNA server is making our videos available on any device in the house, at any time, without needing to find the DVD/BD and put it in the player. I would never want to delete the files, as then I'd not be able to watch them again without re-ripping them. When watching TV episodes, Serviio already includes a marker (*) on the last episode watched, so you can continue from where you left off.

I could see this possible need if you only used Serviio to watch something once that's been downloaded, and never wanted to watch it again. For me, that kind of defeats the purpose of a DLNA server. :?

Re: Delete watched video Files

Maybe I'm unique in how I use Serviio (which I love).

My primary use is watching DVR'ed TV shows.
So, as you pointed out, I record my shows, watch them once, and then want to delete them.
I would really like to delete the show manually after watching via the media browser interface.
There are times where my GF and I watch the same shows, but not at the same time. So, a delete "button" would be best.

I guess whether this gets implemented depends on the effort and how many other customers would use this feature.

I can certainly see where this feature would be disabled by default.

I'm sure there are many out there that don't care about this feature or don't see its merits.

But, is there anybody else out there that would use this feature if available?

If so, please speak up.

Thanks

Re: Delete watched video Files

Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking this might be a scenario that this could be used for. Makes sense for you. :)

Agree completely that it would absolutely need to be disabled by default. I can see the problems with people screaming their videos are disappearing!

Re: Delete watched video Files

I would like it. I record 6 channels every night, and, as I watch things, want them to go away, or,possibly renamed somehow.
