New presentation category

Hi,

I suggest to make a new presentation category for Videos named 'other'.

Why?

In category 'Movies' there are just the video files that were discovered by their metadata (online).
I also have home videos but no metadata search is set for them (because is not possible to set .nfo search for this folder and online search for the other folders).

So in the category 'Other' there should be all 'movies'/video files with no found metadata.

I hope is will be added soon :D

Re: New presentation category

Think this will be complicated
You can find your other files under "Folder". If the movies not showing properly in "Movies", rename it closely matching http://www.themoviedb.org

Re: New presentation category

All my files are renamed based on themoviedb.org but for example movie 'The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (2005)' or 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2010)' are not found.
And there other with same problem.

Anyway I don't see why it whold be difficult. The indexed files are stored in a SQL database, the movies with metadata are selected from that. Why would be a problem to make an inverse select from it?

Re: New presentation category

I think there is merit in somehow better identifying movies and series that haven't discovered metadata... just not sure an "other" category is the best way to do it as I think this will be confusing to the user.

Real reason for the post though was in respect to unmatched movies. Generally if you don't get metadata for movies you need to rename the movie. I use Filebot to assist with this process - see my post here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10626&p=70544#p70544 for more detail. In the case of the two you mention, try renaming to the Harry Potter film to:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)
I had no problem with the Hitchhiker's movie - added to my library with that file name (as an .mkv file)??

Will not be adding 'Other' category, it'd be confusing as others say. I agree there should be a better way of notifying about missing metadata, but this is not the answer.

Re: New presentation category

My suggestion was virtually identical to the OP of this thread, to have an option to show videos which don't contain metadata ONLY in the Folder view. This would not require any additional category, just an additional option.

I have too many movies on the server to make browsing them on my BluRay player practical (it's pretty slow, unless I am using the Tablet app). So I go to Title instead, which is divided into each letter. It was good that this no longer shows TV shows if you select relevant option, but it still shows, mixed in with all the movies, all my loose files - randomly named movie trailers, music videos, gaming videos, YT rips and so on, stuff I want accessible via DLNA but not stuff I want to show up alongside the nicely categorised movies.

It would be even better if the presentation categories could be made a modular XML file too, so people could edit as to their own presentation requirements.
