Raw Folder Mode

Sorry for the onslaught of messages. Going to bed now. Final thoughts tonight:

I love the transcoding features of Serviio. Most if not all of my videos work great and I'm lucky most of them just have to be remuxed into a mpegts stream.

I'm probably never going to use Serviio's metadata features. If it would work 100% it would be awesome but for me, half a solution is worse than no solution since there are gaps if some files have metadat and some don't. I think it's a silly battle for me with my library. I don't have to time to change filenames and edit internal metadata to make it match various databases or work a local db. I have my working folder structure with lots of files and I just want to browse my folders and watch movies. Furthermore the stale local_default is getting in my way a lot.

Therefore I'd love a dumb/raw mode for serviio. Just serve up the Library as it is. No caching, no thumbs, no metadata, no database. Just serve up the shared folders as they are and send over a transcoded temp video when something is selected.

Would this be possible?

Cheers,
Zek

The database is a central component of the system, so it cannot be removed. Caching is there to speed up browsing, especially if you have a lot of items in a folder - it increased considerably the browsing speed and you can see no one on the forums complaining about how snappy that is (which was the case before it was introduced somewhere in 0.4.1 or so).
You can disable metadata and thumbnails as it is now.
