Howto select Audio & Video in 0.5

That's just an idea I would like to present here:
Imagine having two audio streams and two subtitle streams - as I read in other topics it was suggested to present all combinations of files in single folder i.e. this would mean serviio shows 6 files - all the same video but different audio and subtitle.
Why not having a "Control Folder" in the top hierarchy where you select the language and subtitle - serviio stores it. After that all you'r files play with that configuration. The advantage would be that when playing series or movies you need not to select audio and subtitle over and over again ... and of course having only one file presented. Just check PS3MS to see what I mean - it does this for video configuration but still presents all combinations of audio/subtitles in a single folder - it's not really comfortable to search through all the combinations ...
thx

From the examples I have on my hard disk, it seems like people who release movie rips generally do set the three letter language code of the audio streams and subs consistently. So a preference order (a la PS3 Media Server) would be good, and hopefully not a huge nightmare to add to the existing code. I think this could be in the Serviio console prefs personally.

I think in console as well, I don't want to clutter the browsing UI with controls.
There could be something like:
1) select preferred language
2) use DTS as primary audio stream (if available)
so if you have a file with 2 tracks, ac3 and dts, it's know it wants to map the DTS audio into the transcoding job, otherwise get the first available.
Ideas?

This would be awesome.

I would prefer the browsing UI controls (although I would be already very happy if we could set it in the console.
The reason I would prefer the browsing UI controls is the fact that I have videos which the kids will want to view in dutch language, whereas I would like to see them in english. I would see no other way with the proposed solution than to go back to the Pc and switch the preferred language.
Perhaps a combination of both (e.g. 2 preferred languages, when both are present, then show them in the browsing ui ?

Hen

Also how about actually muxing in all streams and letting the renderers (which support it) give the option to the user?

Would this mean that the Renderen then selects the language as well? hmm ... would be interesting which TVs support that ... but I think thats where the future goes - they going to implement more and more features (hopefully) into the DLNA renderer ...

This is exactly what I do with subs and I was wondering whether this could be adressed. My movie structure is like this:
movies\
movies\Avatar\
Avatar.avi
Avatar_ser.sub
Avatar_eng.sub
So my Samsung C550 won't see the subs because they are not the same filename as the video file (avi). If Serviio could somehow "slip" the subtitles to DLNA player according to the language preferences so the TV sees it as "Avatar.sub" it would be great.

I don't think my samsung LE40C650 supports selecting audio tracks over dlna.
Probably only a few tv's do. In the future their numbers will problably increase but for now it would be nice to be able to select the language another way.
Kind regards,
Hen

Hi,
I like the ideas you have, especially as my LE40B750 allows no language selection of mkvs so far. What I liked was the implementation of the Wild Media Server (Single files can be chosen, one for each language). But it didn't work as well as Serviio does. I would also be in favor of setting the preferred language via a "settings" or "control" folder. Although it would also be nice to be able to make these settings via the console.
Anyway, Serviio definitely needs options to be able to select the language!
