I'm also in Brazil (fala moçada!) and my BD-C5500 is not playing subtitles in Serviio.

I have the last firmware installed. PCSM show subs fine.

Re: Subtitles support

Hi everybody. I could only come back to the tests today.
Well, unfortunatelly the results were not what I expected. Due to a mess of DLNA servers in my computer - I had TVersity, PCSM, WMS, Twonky and some others installed - I renamed all instances of these servers and made a huge confusion of who is who when accessing them from my TV. So, when I thought I was accessing Serviio I was actually accessing other software. Today, when most trial ended and I uninstalled them I realized my mistake.
So, I'm really sorry for the disinformation service I did.

** Serviio is NOT WORKING FOR SUBTITLES with my TV**

To try to redress for my error, I've made a Wireshark log using WildMediaServer, which get subtitles working. This log is quite big and is from the moment I connected and started browsing the server, then played a few seconds of the movie with the subtitles on till I close the connection to the server.

Here is the log file.

Again, sorry for the misinformation. I'm available to any test you need me to do.

Re: Subtitles support

Hi Zip. I'm currently also facing missing subtitles issue, with LE40C650. I'm not sure if you are currently working on it or not, but I'd like to offer my help at logging and testing, in case you need it.
So far I have checked the logs others have uploaded and I found a slight differences in DIDL-Lite content of someting I believe to be a relevant part of the communication. Seems Mezzmo has his sec:CaptionInfoEx tag directly after res tag and Serviio has an other res tag inbetween. Might it be Samsung supposes his proprietary sec:CaptionInfoEx tag applies to the directly preceeding res tag? I haven't found a DIDL-Lite specification so I'm not sure if the tag order could be significant, and I'm not even sure I have picked the right part of the log. But I hope it will be a little bit useful for you though.

Some links I found when I ran out of my wits:

Re: Subtitles support

Hi, yes I'm working on it. The position of the element doesn't matter. In fact the TV knows about the subtitle resource and makes attempt to load it - but then closes the connection. So there will be more likely some HTTP communication problem (e.g. missing header) that I'm trying to tackle now.

Re: Subtitles support

Is there any temporary workaround to get subtitles working on a Samsung Series B TV from an MKV file?

I mean, even a simple way to convert using anyvideoconverter that would keep the subtitles intact? I'm getting kind of desperate here.

Re: Subtitles support

It works with B series - from an external .srt file that is. If you want internal subtitles to play you'll need a tool that will extract the subtitles information from the mkv and save it as srt.

Re: Subtitles support

What is a good tool for this purpose? Everything I've tried pulls out subtitles that are badly timed from an mkv... :( ... and also i can leave the file type as mkv and it will still handle an srt the same way?

thanks in advance.

Re: Subtitles support

zip, I have a Blu-ray player Samsung BD-C5500, do you want me to make any tests with it? I can tell now that serviio don't show any subs, but PC Share Manager does. Do you want me to test with another program? If so, how? Do you have any idea why the subs aren't working?

Do you still need more logs/debug info for this? I can try and capture it in a bit (C6500)

Re: Subtitles support

Subtitles are working fine with minidlna (http://minidlna.sourceforge.net/), but not with Serviio. Perhaps you can check how they did it?
BTW I'm on Gentoo Linux amd64 and streaming to a Samsung UE40C6000 with latest update (v. 1010). I'm using the Samsung WiselinkPro (C-series) setting

Re: Subtitles support

Hi, for my first post, i'd say i really enjoy Serviio.
Second for this problem, i've made some test with other server.

The only that has worked well, was Mezzmo (trial).
Here are the tcp dumps.

  Code:
GET <...> HTTP/1.0
HOST: <...:...>
ACCEPT-LANGUAGE: en-us
getcontentFeatures.dlna.org:1
transferMode.dlna.org:Background

  Code:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Windows, UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50, Mezzmo Media Server/2.1.8.0
Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2010 23:31:11 GMT
Last-Modified: Sat, 07 Aug 2010 23:31:11 GMT
Connection: keep-alive
Expires: Sat, 07 Aug 2010 23:31:11 GMT
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Cache-Control: no-cache
Content-Length: 31110
transferMode.dlna.org: Background
Content-Type: text/srt

  Code:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Windows XP UPnP/1.0 Serviio 0.4.1
Date: Sun, 08 Aug 2010 09:26:32 GMT
Cache-control: no-cache
Content-Length: 31110
transferMode.dlna.org: Background
Content-Type: smi/caption
Pragma: no-cache
contentFeatures.dlna.org: DLNA.ORG_OP=00;DLNA.ORG_CI=0;

I try changing "Content-Type" from "smi/caption" to "text/srt".
I think these is useless header : contentFeatures.dlna.org
Mezzmo seems to always use keep-alive connection (provided with HTTP 1.1).
Hope this will help you.

If you share me your code, maybe i could implement it.
Thanks!

TVMobili works flawlessly with Series C, including subtitle, it's free and allows sharing media with friends. But it does not have the cataloging capabilities from Serviio...

Did you try to get in contact with the developer? The available version also didnt show the subtitles on my Series C TV but the developer sent me a dev build and it has worked very well. :-)
Not sure though if it's working for a BD player
