Selectable Time to Update Library

I long ago disabled the automatic refresh of the library due to my computer becoming extremely sluggish while updating. Since then, I have manually hit the "Force Refresh" button when I want to update library. However I wouldn't mind having the library get updated at say 7:00AM every morning, because I would either be at work or in bed.

I know you are working on revamping the way that the library is updated for version 0.5, would it be possible to add a feature to select specific times to update the library? Or if there is a command I can pass the program so that I can set up a scheduled task/cron job?

Thanks again for all your hard work. This program is something I use EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Re: Selectable Time to Update Library

I am not sure if this scheduled refresh is the correct thing to add. As mentioned by sct|nsky it should be possible to add it yourself with some external program.

What wonders me is that the automatic refresh slows down your machine. I have not changed the configuration, and when I don´t add new stuff to my HD it is even going into sleep mode, and the serviio-server takes only little CPU time (this is on a Debian system with an EXT3-FS).

But I also have a problem with updating the library: when I copy a new file into my video directory, serviio is automatically adding it to the library. But very often it´s some how not added correctly. I can play the file on my Samsung TV, but i can´t do fast forward or rewind it. If I rename the file and wait some time, I have no problems with it.

My assumption is, that serviio adds the new file to the library while it is not completely copied. So my feature request is, that serviio only puts files into the library which have not changed in the last 10 seconds.

So you suggest that for every new file, Serviio has to wait for 10 seconds to check if it's growing in size? That would prolong the indexing process considerably. Also, from my experience, different OSes treat storing files differently, so this would not be working on all of them.

Re: Selectable Time to Update Library

I am not suggesting that serviio has to wait 10 seconds. If the modification time is less than 10 seconds old, simply ignore the file. The next time serviio checks for new files it will be added to the library.

It was just an idea: if you don´t like it, ignore it. In the moment it happens quite often to me, that I have to rename a file, because otherwise fast forward does not work. But it is only one additional command, so it is not really a problem. And you are right: my proposal would not work with FAT, because there is only one timestamp.

What about this: somehow your program must know, that the media file was incomplete, when it was added to the library. What about adding something to rescan only those incomplete files? But I still think that my original proposal is better...
