Have Serviio generate playlists based on folder data

Hi,

I'd like a way for Serviio to generate random playlists based on folders specified in configuration, and monitor these paths for changes like it does with the media libary.

Example:

In serviio configuration console, add a tab called "playlist", click "add new playlist" then you get the option to add multiple paths (important), lets say i add:

f:/series/futurama
d:/movies/
d:/incoming/new/

I name the playlist "random stuff"
i set content type "Videos" for this playlist.

Now serviio looks at the paths specified and generates a playlist called "random stuff" in the videos/playlist libary in serviio.

The playlist is now updated automatically based on the paths specified earlier and whenever a file add/remove they update the playlist automatically.

There needs to be an option to shuffle the playlist on "playback" so it becomes random each playback (not sure if this is possible or controlled by the client playing the playlist?)

This goes for images/music and videos, it would be cool to have these random "party mode" playlists to just put on and let them run, completely random as your own tv channel on all dlna devices!

Just throwing some ideas out there, not sure what is possible, i did something similar in xbmc using javascript to generate random playlists automatically on the file server but i'm sure serviio could integrate something awesome like this much nicer than i could.

Re: Have Serviio generate playlists based on folder data

That sounds interesting. I'm thinking that instead of adding file paths, it should only enable them to create playlists from the already shared folders (the roots). But maybe then it'd not be fine grained enough, as most people probably just share something like d:\music and d:\video ....
